Intimate Desert Elopements in New Mexico
There are many ways to step into marriage. At Desert Harbor, we offer a different kind of beginning—one part wedding, one part retreat, set in the quiet vastness of the New Mexico high desert.
Here, your elopement is not a performance. It is a pause. A return. A beginning shaped by stillness, beauty, and presence.
Located near Santa Fe and Albuquerque, Desert Harbor is a private off-grid retreat on 34 acres of open desert land. We host only one couple at a time, ensuring complete privacy and full attention to your experience.
What Makes a Desert Harbor Elopement Different
A desert elopement at Desert Harbor is designed for couples who want something slower, more intentional, and deeply personal.
This is not a venue with rotating weddings.
This is a private retreat where your experience unfolds at your pace.
When you arrive, the land is yours. The silence is yours. The time is yours.
What we offer is simple:
A private desert casita
A carefully guided wedding experience
Space to rest, breathe, and actually feel your wedding day
No rush. No crowds. No overlap with other couples.
Just the two of you, and the wide New Mexico sky.
What Your Elopement Experience Feels Like
(Three-night package)
Most couples experience their elopement here as a three-part arc:
Arrival & Landing
You arrive, unpack, take a brief tour, and embrace the quiet. The pace slows almost immediately. There is time to settle, reconnect, and leave the outside world behind.
You enjoy dinner, a chocolate berry fondue dessert, then either choose a soak in our off-grid hot tub or opt for a bonfire and s’mores experience in an ancient sandstone cove.
Ceremony Day
The “day of” is intentionally spacious. With time for meals, naps, optional hair/make up service, and getting dressed, there is no rush and no stress.
Your ceremony is designed to feel grounded, personal, and unhurried. We coordinate all the details so you can simply be present with each other.
The desert becomes the backdrop. Not a stage—but a presence.
After the Ceremony
The rest of the day opens into celebration, reflection and stillness:
shared meals
clear blue skies
time together without structure or expectation
massage, firelight, soaking, or simply resting
Most couples describe this part as what they didn’t know they needed most.

Can We Include Guests?
Yes. We allow up to 20 guests.
There is a $500 total guest fee.
That said, Desert Harbor is intentionally designed for intimate, couple-centered experiences. Many couples choose to keep the ceremony private and share their photos or film afterward so they can fully experience the day without distraction.
If guests attend, we provide a central gathering space for ceremony viewing and a simple celebration afterward.

Best Time to Elope in New Mexico
The most popular months for desert elopements are:
April–May and September–October
These seasons offer the most comfortable temperatures, with warm days and cooler mornings ideal for outdoor ceremonies and photography.
Spring tends to be slightly windier, while fall is often calm, crisp, and clear.
We host elopements year-round, including winter and summer, for couples whose timing is guided by life rather than season.
Weekday vs Weekend Elopements
We recommend weekday elopements when possible.
This allows for:
better vendor availability
quieter scheduling
a more spacious overall experience
Because marriage licenses in New Mexico are issued through county offices open Monday–Friday, weekday planning also simplifies logistics.
Pets Are Welcome
Yes—your dog is welcome to join your elopement.
We love when couples bring their pets as part of the experience.
A small $50 cleaning fee applies.
Your Officiant
Your ceremony will typically be officiated by Raymond Linam, co-owner and director of Desert Harbor.
Raymond has officiated nearly 100 ceremonies and focuses on creating grounded, meaningful, and unhurried wedding experiences.
You are also welcome to bring your own officiant or spiritual leader.

We keep the planning process simple, supportive, and personal.
